Rosemary

Botanical Name: Rosmarinus officinalis L.
Synonyms: Rosmarinus coronarium
Family: Lamiaceae (Labiatae)

Common Uses:

Rosemary essential oil is widely known for its stimulating and clarifying properties. It supports focus, mental clarity, and motivation, making it ideal for cognitive function and memory retention. It is also commonly used in muscle recovery, hair care, and respiratory support.

Blends well with:

  • Upper Respiratory / Sinusitis: Eucalyptus, Peppermint, Pine
  • Muscle Aches & Pains / Sprains, Cramps: Black Pepper, Eucalyptus, Ginger, Pine
  • Mental Restorative: Black Pepper, Ginger, Lemongrass, Lemon, Pine, Peppermint
  • Hair Tonic / Alopecia: Cedarwood (Atlas), Patchouli – Rosemary Hydrosol works great as an leave in conditioner

Precautions / Contraindications:

  • Avoid during pregnancy (due to camphor content).
  • Avoid if epileptic (camphor may trigger seizures).
  • Caution with high blood pressure.
  • Do not apply or use around children, especially near the face.
  • Camphor content may be neurotoxic—use with care.

As with all essential oils, taking internally, ingesting, or adding to food/beverages is not recommended and can cause harm.

Keep all essential oils out of the reach of children, lids secured in a cool, dark location.

Aromatic Note: Top Note

A strong, fresh, camphoraceous aroma that dries down into a woody, herbaceous base.

Oil & Aromatic Description:

Pale yellow to almost clear oil with a bold, invigorating scent. Each chemotype has a unique aromatic profile.

Method of Extraction: Steam distilled

Parts Used: Leaves, flowers, and twigs (Tunisian oil omits twigs for a more stable composition).
Country of Origin: Spain

Note: There are three main chemotypes of Rosmarinus officinalis, each with different applications:

  • Camphor-Borneol (Spain) – Offered by RVA – General stimulant, heart tonic, supports muscle recovery.
  • 1,8-Cineole (Tunisia) – Ideal for respiratory concerns and liver/kidney detox.
  • Verbenone (France) – Gentle for skin, antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal, liver & gallbladder support.
